Roadmap

Use Data Workbench to upload data into a SAP S/4HANA or SAP R/3 system using Microsoft Excel, or download data from SAP to Microsoft Excel.

Data Workbench:

  • Uses SAP transaction codes, making it a safe and reliable means of uploading data into SAP
  • Recognizes all restrictions on SAP users via authorizations, user profiles or other methods used by the SAP administrator.
  • Requires little or no technical knowledge. It typically takes less than one hours to get up and running with Data Workbench.

The roadmap below helps you get started with Data Workbench.

Setting Up

Activate Data Workbench

When you first run Data Workbench after installation, the Activation wizard steps you through entering a license key and activating Data Workbench. If a user name and password is required to start Data Workbench after activation, the default is admin/admin.

Set up Systems

After activation, the next step is to add the SAP systems you want to access. System Instances on the Administration page provides tools to add, edit and manage access to SAP systems.

Set up Users

For enterprise installations, an administrator needs to set up users from Manage User/Group on the Administration page.

See:

Set Up Users in an Enterprise Installation.

Record Transactions

The first step in uploading data to SAP is to record the SAP transaction fields that you are adding in a template.

Data Workbench Architecture

Data Workbench consists of 3 main components:

  • QAS (Authentication Server) database, a SQL Server database for storing templates and user/administration information
  • Data Workbench graphical user interface for creating and managing data uploads/downloads
  • QEE (Execution Engine), a Windows service for running data uploads
